did you guess it correctly? it's the natural makeup trend, thanks to korean influences!
if i were to come up with a keyword for this trend, it'd be "translucent". afterall, summer is all about clear skin and barely there makeup, right?

here's what majolica majorca has to offer this summer. most items are limited in number, but i believe they'll make a come back if sales are good :)

NUDE MAKE GEL (FOUNDATION, MAKEUP BASE, CONCEALER) SPF30 PA+++ | 1300 YEN

a gel that transforms into a lotion upon touching your skin, this moisturizing lotion will cover up any slight blemishes naturally to give you a no makeup look. can be used as a foundation, make up base, or a concealer.

LASH SECRET LONG (LIMITED) | 1200 YEN

can be used as both a mascara base and a top coat, the black extension fibre in the clear base will lengthen your lashes naturally and secretly. waterproof formula means your lashes will stay curled all day!

BLOOD ON (LIMITED) | 950 YEN

japanese are all about multi function products ever since the success of visee's cream blusher, which doubles up as a lip tint as well! blood on gives you a clear reddish veil on your cheeks and lips, just what it takes to fake that natural flush.

HONEY PUMP GLOSS NEO (LIMITED) | 480 YEN

2 new limited colours - red and orange - will help you create the perfect no makeup makeup look! the thick gloss is formulated with royal honey EX, moisturizing your lips while plumping them up with volume at the same time. 

the only thing that caught my attention is their beautiful packaging. i particularly like the gold on white packaging of the blood on blusher/lip tint. i am inclined to try the nude make gel some day, after i run out of my current foundation perhaps?

A Guide On Majolica Majorca Mascaras

For Those Confused By The Marketers

i decided to write this entry because i also need to educate myself on the range of mascaras offered by majolica majorca, a brand under shiseido. those fancy  names don't tell me much about the actual functions, and the brand is obviously trying to make it difficult for me to differentiate between product packaging because they all look similar in terms of color scheme (with the except of the lash link and lash bone). so here is an illustrated entry on the strengths of each mascara.

on the official japanese website, there are only 2 types of mascaras and one base coat. each type comes in two variations: film type (removeable with warm water) and waterproof type.

i've translated the original image (it was in japanese) to english. it's only available on their japanese website, i think they should add this to their other websites too because it's so useful! now you are able to tell at a glance what each mascara does.

the LASH KING is meant to give you length AND volume, while making your lashes more fluttery at the same time. think of it as an all rounder. i'd perhaps liken this to the maybelline falsies, since that also promises length, volume, fullness, and flared out lashes. i have a review on the maybelline falsies mascara coming up soon!

the LASH EXPANDER (i'll omit the 'edge meister' from here on because the name is too long) on the other hand will give you length and separated lashes. this is much like the maybelline lashionista mascara, except this comes in waterproof formula. i've actually tried the older version of the lash expander, you can read my review here.

the LASH BONE is a translucent mascara base that contains black fibers, meant as a base coat to give you more length and volume. japanese brands seem to love making a lash primer for extra length. kate, visee and integrate have them too.

on the singapore website, i spy two extra mascara that isn't shown on the japanese site (anymore?).

and look what i found on the taiwanese official website!!! a full on comparison chart! i translated it into english from chinese :D easy peasy!

as the film type LASH KING is a new release in japan, it's not updated on the taiwanese website yet, hence showing only a "waterproof" sign. image originally from the taiwan MJ website.

the LASH ENAMEL GLAMOUR VOLUME ON is a volumizing mascara, the dual comb brush allows you to control how thick you want your lashes to be. thick as in clusters of lashes stuck together to form a gigantic spider leg. i'd say this mascara parallel the maybelline volum'express hyper curl cat eyes waterproof mascara, as the comb allows the volumizing formula to coat my lashes thickly. read my review here!

lastly, the LASH GORGEOUS WING NEO has a formula that will make your lashes look fuller and more fluffy. "more hairy" doesn't sound nice even though that was the first adjective that came into my mind. the brush is zig-zagged to separate your lashes in order to prevent clumping even after multiple coats of the mascara (according to them). at first glance it seems similar to lash king, that's because they are similar. but i'll expect the lash gorgeous wing to give you skinnier and more natural looking lashes. you know some times lashes end up looking spidery after multiple coats? this MAY avoid that. just a guess judging from the product description.

IN A NUTSHELL

there are 4 main types of mascaras offered by majolica majorca - length, volume, fullness (the false lash effect), and "all of the above".

take your pick.

after writing this entry, everything suddenly appears to be clearer to me. majolica majorca's mascara collection isn't as confusing as maybelline's in my opinion. the thing is these mascaras have a creative name, which is in line with the entire brand because they dream up fairy tales for each collection they release - just goes to show you how airy fairy this brand is. it'll be odd to see really practical and descriptive names show up in majolica majorca's product lines.

one must learn the facts before they can appreciate the beauty in these product names, and i can finally say i really like the product names after spending hours flipping through the web to write up this entry.

Majolica Majorca Lash Expander Frame Plus (Swatches and Review)

i am aware that this mascara has been replaced by the lash expander edge meister. once again, this is so telling of how long i've owned this mascara. this dates back to 2010. =_= surprisingly, it has not dried out yet, so i still keep it in my stash even though i seldom use it (you'll see why in a bit).

the name is seriously fancy and yet says nothing about what this mascara does. i mean, expand the lashes in which direction? if it's the horizontal direction, it could be a voluminizing mascara..! i would actually name it "lengthening and curling mascara", but that wouldn't catch the hearts of the little princesses i guess..!

ok, i'm being mean here. this mascara claims to carry out 3 functions - lengthening, curling, and separating. while it did not state explicitly that it's waterproof on the tube, it is actually waterproof.


it comes with girly prints on the tube. i love the little details! and i really like the gold on black design. so classy.

as usual, i got it in black, its colour code is BK999. it's as though 999 stands for the blackest of the blacks.

THE BRUSH__________________________________________________________________


not only do the mascara have a fancy name, it has a rather fancy brush too. there are two sides to it.

the first is meant for the bottom lashes and it consists of shallow grooves that will collect lesser products so as to prevent depositing too much onto the lower lashes.
the second side is a single comb brush with closely spaced tooth. this is meant for combing the upper lashes. the groove is much deeper than the first, so it contains much more products (which is ideal when it comes to building length with it).

i have no idea how long the fibres actually are, and i don't think it matters because do you really use a ruler to measure how long it lengthened your lashes? neither do i.

THE CAPABILITIES___________________________________________________________

the lengthening power is okay, it looks really amazing in the comparison photo with my eyes opened because they made my really thin lashes become more visible, but does it really lengthen that well? i think it's rather mediocre if you compare the gif. if anything, it made my lashes wider than longer (due to the age of the product i suppose). when it was brand new a few years ago, the mascara was relatively wetter, when i load up two coats of mascara, what i get is the same lengthening effects, but lesser volume. i ended up with really natural looking lashes, so natural that it looks like i didn't wear any mascara at all (not sure if i like that look or not).

thanks to the comb brush, it is able to separate my lashes into little clusters.

this mascara is able to hold the curl for the entire day, but one thing i didn't like is that it will straighten part of my curls right after application. instead of a beautiful curl (that i achieved by crimping my lashes along the lengths), it now becomes a one that points straight up, i can't even call it a curl. it's waterproof, and is able to stay put on my lashes for the entire day when i do wear it. no melting or smudging!

if i want better curls, i'll have to curl my lashes with an electric lash curler. it works so much better that way in giving me natural looking curls. the mascara doesn't melt off when heated! :D

the age definitely made it a little harder to get the 2nd coat on without some clumping even when the first coat is not fully dried yet.

lastly, it is so waterproof that it'll take some effort in removing it, even with a eye makeup remover.

IMHO:
i'm not one who goes for just length actually, that's why i'm not too happy with my purchase. my lashes are both short and sparse, and without the volume, no matter how much length i pack on, it will just seem MEH on my lashes.

i really didn't like the fact that it straightened my lashes after application. sometimes i think that the only reason why it's still pointing upwards is because i didn't really get to my roots. otherwise, it'd have fallen down too. but that part can be remedied by using an electric lash curler, so that's fine.

however, with all these said, i used to use it together with a voluminizing mascara, as the latter is able to impart volume and curl, acting like a mascara base for me before i build on its length. BUT, the fibres are really fine, and they can't hold a shape very well, and they often end up bent on the tip of my lashes. who has bent lashes like that!?


can i say that this mascara is overly waterproof? i bet if i go dive with this mascara on, it'll stay on me even after the dive. this stuff is really nasty to remove off my delicate lashes. it's actually the hardest to remove out of all my waterproof mascara.

i don't even know why i still keep it in my stash. to be honest, i've only wore it once in the past few months, and it's for taking swatch photos for this entry. i know hate is a very strong word to use, but i really hate how this mascara works for me - it just didn't work for me!

IN A NUTSHELL
this mascara is good for you if you want
1) separated lashes
2) natural looking lashes

i was thinking of what look to wear for my friend's wedding lunch reception,
i was going to be her emcee so my eyes need to look bold,
but not THAT bold that when you stand up close you'll get freaked out.

1. apply A all over lid and inner corner of eye.
2. apply B on the outer half of the lid, keeping it within my eyelid folds.
3. apply eyeliner!
4. apply C at the end of the lid, slightly above the eyeliner for a dash of pink.
5. apply blusher on cheek.

THE LOOK


this palette is quickly becoming one of my favourites,
it is just as wearable as the brown eyeshadows in my opinion,
and the dash of pink really brightens up the eye look a great deal.
i stay away from the purple shade so this eye look just packed with vibrant and light colours,
perfect for a day look.


i did a test run in the previous photo,
and i did wear this look on my friend's big day!
i actually used a lipstick as my blush on that day to ensure my cheeks are redder :D
(it's the revlon colour burst lipstick in 012 cherry ice)
i also used darker lip color as a stain (revlon super lustrous lipstick in 010 wine not).


i was really generous with my eyeliner that day.
needed my eyes to be visible while on stage :P
